BYU Theater Department to Perform Censored Version of “The Book of Mormon” Musical

The BYU Department of Theater and Media Arts announced that it will be producing an adapted version of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s hit musical “The Book of Mormon.”

“We’re really looking forward to showing BYU students the musical,” said student director and theatre major Sarah Andrews. “My parents saw it on Broadway and walked out after the first 15 minutes, but it made so much money that I just had to adapt it for BYU.”

The production will feature many of the hit songs and characters from “Book of Mormon” but will be edited to eliminate anything that could be considered offensive to BYU students, including dating stereotypes and the defamation of David Archuleta. Intermission will include a lecture from famed BYU professor Brad Wilcox about how the media can be harmful in the lives of young single adults.

Producers estimate that the runtime of the show will be around 5 minutes. Auditions will be held in May. Anyone interested in auditioning must present a valid temple recommend.
