BYU PD Mistakes Trunk-or-Treat for Drug Swap, Arrests 85

On Thursday evening at around 8:12 PM, the BYU Police Department raided the Orem 24th Ward Trunk-or-Treat, making 85 arrests. The police acted on an anonymous tip making them aware of an enormous drug deal taking place in an LDS church parking lot.

“We got a call at 7:50 PM on Thursday, alerting us of an immense drug deal taking place between 50 to 60 cars,” said Officer Doug Judy. “We were also told that most of those involved were 8 to 11 years old, wearing masks, and carrying odd weapons such as axes, lightsabers, and whips.”

Those arrested were released early Friday morning after questioning determined that there were in fact no drugs involved. Police did find a “suspicious amount of Laffy Taffy and Nerds candy,” which was confiscated by police officers. “At the end of this whole thing, I’m proud of how we handled the situation. Sugar bears many similarities to Schedule 1 drugs, so I’m glad we were able to clean up our streets,” says Officer Judy.

When reporters asked why BYU Police were involved in an incident so far away from BYU campus, the reporters were promptly removed from the press room and searched for drugs and candy.

The BYU Police Department is still facing decertification.
