Things “Stranger Things” Got Wrong about Utah

We all have seen the show Stranger Things. It is amazing; however, there are some plot holes and missed details that are nearly impossible to ignore. Utah is getting more attention in the media. With this attention comes a lot of inaccuracies. Here is a list of them:
  1. That is not I-15. Also, they photoshopped downtown to be right in front of a mirror image of Mt. Olympus? Makes no sense.
  2. They looked for Susie in a city, knowing nothing about her except for her first name, and they somehow found her by walking into a stranger’s house. I guess that’s where the title Stranger Things comes from. The things that strangers do…
  3. Susie doesn’t have a dog. Every upper middle class family has a dog.
  4. Susie’s sword-fighting siblings weren’t nearly as aggressive as they should have been. Every time we got in sword fights growing up, they became wrestling matches.
  5. That kid making the movie only got the back of his dad’s head, completely missing the reaction. He’s gonna be disappointed.
  6. How come nobody questions randos walking through the house?
  7. The only people who say “father” instead of “dad” are either polygamists or that one weird fundamentalist family every ward has.
  8. No self-respecting person from SLC would have BYU posters.

Things that were spot-on:

  1. Eden’s entire character.
  2. The mom (presumably) being at work. SLC has a lot more gender equality than Utah County.
  3. The picture in Susie’s room of a little girl praying. I saw it several times growing up in the early 2000s.

  1. #6 seems right to me. #8 it is more of the exception, it looks like the same house in sugar house that Troy Bolton lived in, and nobody in that neck of the woods would be a BYU fan. #2 below, I like that take, but crazy in the 80s with that many kids, really, why was the dad home? You forgot to mention that Mormons don’t have the last supper hanging in their home. They could have consulted any Mormon for a wide selection of more fitting art choices.
