TAYLOR SWIFT RELEASES “ENCHANTED (TAYLOR’S VERSION) (CHORAL VERSION) (FROM THE VAULT) FEAT. TABERNACLE CHOIR”

At her latest performances of the Eras tour in Kansas City, Taylor Swift surprised the crowd once again. On Friday, July 7, the day Swift’s newest album dropped, she wowed crowds by bringing onstage guests Joey King, Presley Cash, and Taylor Lautner, with whom she then premiered her latest music video, for “I Can See You (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault).” But Kansas City Swifties with tickets to night two on July 8 were not to be left in the dust.

When Swift returned to the stage following the “Reputation” act of the tour, she was ready to perform her hit “Enchanted.” Audiences, however, were in for a surprise. Swift told the crowd she “had a big announcement” and “wanted to bring out some close friends for this next song.” Then entered the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, dressed in purple to match the Speak Now aesthetic.

“I don’t even know who they are,” said Hayleigh, a concertgoer. “I wish we’d gotten Taylor Lautner, but hey, that version kinda slapped.” Hayleigh was not alone – many fans at the performance were unfamiliar with the Tabernacle Choir, but, as one young fan commented, “I’ll have to listen to their albums next!” Swift announced at the conclusion of “Enchanted” that the remixed version of the song, featuring the Tabernacle Choir, had just been released on all streaming services. It was streamed 3.38 million times on Sunday, coincidentally the same number as the population of the state of Utah.

Some concertgoers and Taylor Swift fans were less than thrilled about the remix. “I wish she’d collabed with them on Never Grow Up,” said one fan on Twitter. “Enchanted is just not a song that needs a remix.” Another fan took to TikTok to express her feelings on the remix. She said: “I wanted Ice Spice to do a remix on Vigilante [redacted], not Karma, and I sure didn’t want the official Mormon band coming in on my favorite song.”

And Swifties aren’t the only angry ones. Karol C. of Provo, Utah took to Facebook to express her thoughts: “I just don’t understand why the Lord’s choir would collaborate with a woman who performs witchcraft as a part of her stadium tour,” Karol wrote. “She’s an unmarried heathen who probably worships the Devil, and I don’t understand why our choir felt the need to give her more attention than she already has. And besides, she really needs to cover up more. Did you see those outfits? It’s embarrassing.”

But some are thrilled about the remix. Said Kendall J., a nursing major at BYU: “I was enchanted to hear the new remix!!! I love that Taylor’s branching out with other artists, especially the Tabernacle Choir. They were my top Spotify artist last year, and I’m glad she gets it too.” Dawson Q., an engineering major, was also excited. “I don’t really like Taylor Swift – I think she writes too much about scandal and not enough about Christ – and my most recent ex said that was a red flag. But now she’s got a song I can feel comfortable listening to!”

Whether you like it or not, the remix can be found on all streaming services. Rumor has it Swift may even be a featured guest in the October general conference, as she will have no shows for the Eras Tour that month.

Full lyrics to the remixed version are found below:

TAYLOR SWIFT:

There I was again tonight

Forcing laughter, faking smiles

Same old tired, lonely place

Walls of insincerity, shifting eyes and vacancy

Vanished when I saw your face

All I can say is, it was enchanting to meet you

TABERNACLE CHOIR:

Your eyes whispered, “Have we met?”

‘Cross the room your silhouette

Starts to make its way to me

The playful conversation starts

Counter all your quick remarks

Like passing notes in secrecy

And it was enchanting to meet you

All I can say is, I was enchanted to meet you

SWIFT & CHOIR:

This night is sparkling, don’t you let it go

I’m wonderstruck, blushing all the way home

I’ll spend forever wondering if you knew

I was enchanted to meet you

SWIFT:

The lingering question kept me up

2 AM, who do you love?

I wonder ’til I’m wide awake

And now I’m pacing back and forth

Wishing you were at my door

I’d open up and you would say, “Hey”

It was enchanting to meet you

All I know is, I was enchanted to meet you

SWIFT & CHOIR:

This night is sparkling, don’t you let it go

I’m wonderstruck, blushing all the way home

I’ll spend forever wondering if you knew

That this night is flawless, don’t you let it go

I’m wonderstruck, dancing around all alone

I’ll spend forever wondering if you knew

I was enchanted to meet you

TABERNACLE CHOIR:

This is me praying that

This was the very first page

Not where the story line ends

My thoughts will echo your name, until I see you again

These are the words I held back, as I was leaving too soon

I was enchanted to meet you
