The District: Where Are They Now?

The District is known for its entertaining depiction of missionary training videos. The show claims to be a fully real documentary of missionaries in the California San Diego Mission working with investigators. We at the Alternate Universe were curious about what happened to these investigators and decided to reach out.

Viewers remember Jynx for her shock at learning of the Word of Wisdom (“NO COFFEE?”) Even with her misgivings, the elders extended a baptismal invitation to her. Jynx was miraculously baptized shortly following her feature on The District. Although she had completely sworn off coffee, a few years post-baptism, she began smoking marijuana and left the Church after facing disciplinary measures.

German is known for the hilarious mishap where the elders failed to teach him the Law of Chastity. German, devoutly committed to being born again in Christ, swore off of all romantic contact with women until the bishop corrected his ways. German was eventually baptized and still attends church today. In fact, German was still a new member when he met a sister missionary who inspired “inappropriate thoughts”. In an effort to be righteous, he proposed, and they were soon sealed in the San Diego temple. They have four sons and two dogs.

Alejandra was an investigator who needed assistance reading the Book of Mormon. While she had a strong testimony, Alejandra was not baptized until 2019. She divorced her husband and was able to enter the waters of baptism after attending church with the sister missionaries. She is now the Relief Society president.

Manny and Tina are an adorable couple. Manny and Tina are still together and have twelve children. While they have gone through periods of inactivity, they are currently devout members. Manny and Tina plan on serving a senior mission in West Virginia.

Ming is notable for being one of the only non-Christians on the show. As such, he was incredibly important to missionaries serving in parts of the world where Christianity was not a majority religions. Ming was taught the Law of Tithing on the District, and seemed to receive it well. Ming was sentenced to prison in 2018 for tax fraud. However, he continues to pay his tithing, and even blesses and passes the sacrament to himself every Sunday.

John is featured in an episode on how to teach the Law of Chastity. John is currently on his third marriage. However, as part of God’s plan, he happened to marry an inactive woman, and together they have returned to the covenant path.
