Less than 24 hours away from the kick off of BYU’s Homecoming Spectacular Concert, American Idol runner-up David Archuleta is pleading with fans throughout the country to text in their votes during the celebration. David, still tormented by his second place finish 10 years ago, is determined to finally earn the title of American Idol in a concert featuring both he and Grammy award-winning, multiplatinum-selling singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat.

“I think people just got confused last time around. In 2008 I was competing against another guy named David – I mean come on, how do you vote for the right David when they’re both David?” Archuleta fumed, momentarily departing for his soft spoken brand in an exclusive interview with The Alternate Universe. “It’s time for America to choose: it’s either Colbie or me.”

David was quick to express his appreciation at being allowed to share the stage with an actual famous person on Thursday and Friday night, but also doubled down on his intent to out sing Caillat and once again capture the hearts and votes of viewers throughout the United States. His agent Harry has fully supported David’s passionate social media pleas, frantic phone calls and emotional YouTube videos calling for text-in votes tomorrow because the both of them feel this could be Archuleta’s last shot at bursting out of his Utah fame bubble.

“It’s no secret that David has had some ups and downs in his career. A few years back he made a song with Miley Cyrus. That was an up. Then she went crazy.” David’s agent Harry recalled, momentarily staring off into the distance and grimacing, “Then he went on a mission that no one made a Mormon Message about, came back, sang ‘Crush’, stayed single and gave firesides for free at local mutual activities.”

BYU has yet to announce if they will set up a text-in voting system for the concert, but David remains hopeful. Meanwhile, Colbie Caillat has spent the day mostly in her hotel, reportedly also reflecting on her career and trying to figure out how she ended up performing at a college homecoming concert.
