A scandal has broken out on campus as Wednesday’s BYU Student Association elections were rocked with allegations of foreign language department interference. According to sources, over 200,000 votes were cast for Manny the Mannequin, drawing suspicion of voter fraud onto the election.
“Who could have known that this could be an issue?” said BYUSA election official Bryan Thurmond, “It turns out using an unsecured mobile app isn’t the best way to facilitate an election.”
Accusations of fraud grew more and more prevalent as the estimate vote count continued to climb. The majority of these claims were levied against the Russian Department after sources leaked internal department e-mails containing plans for a “cultural exposure experience” that would enlist Russian majors into a hacking and disinformation campaign targeting the BYUSA presidential election.
“We will neither confirm nor deny the validity of these rumors,” stated Russian Department spokesman Dmitry Medvedev, “but it suffices to say we are dedicated to providing our students with an authentic Russian election experience.”
Those running for BYUSA positions were notified that election results would be delayed as investigators sort through the situation. The BYU Women’s Volleyball team will be appointed as a “temporary” student government that will peacefully hand over power once a legitimate winner has been determined.
