“It’s a Good Thing There’s No Racism at BYU,” Says White Midwestern Student

Recent coverage of police brutality towards black Americans across the nation have left much of the public shocked and outraged. With such perturbing acts of violence happening to such a significant portion of the population, some young people are trying to keep their idealism intact by looking to the bright side.

“Police brutality is an awful thing,” said Owen McKay, a BYU student from the Midwest. “But at least that kind of thing is just a ton of isolated incidents.”

“I totally agree,” added Joseph Pratt, McKay’s friend from home and fellow BYU student. “It’s a good thing there’s no racism at BYU. Like, there’s no way people of color could be treated unfairly or put in danger because of their race here in Utah, right?”

The two students added that even though they are white, they could sympathize with the fear of police because they had once been scolded by campus police for jaywalking on their way to the Tanner.
