BYU On-Campus Housing Announces Trash Bags as a COVID-19 Prevention

COVID-19 cases are still increasing across the world, especially in Utah, but BYU still plans to open in the fall with some precautionary measures in place.

The on-campus housing department has determined that in the event of being exposed to or infected with COVID-19, three large trash bags will be graciously donated to the affected student. This decision has resulted in a mad rush to get any trash bags available, and has created a shortage of trash bags in the Provo area.

“If BYU thinks we only need trash bags to combat coronavirus, then I need to make sure I get all the trash bags I can in my food storage,” says Jefferson Holland, an incoming freshman who will be living at Heritage Halls in the fall. “I’ve already watched a lot of Project Runway and YouTube tutorials to figure out how to make armor out of trash bags to protect me from getting the virus.”

As students slowly return to campus for the upcoming semester, more trash bag trends are being seen. Some students have confessed they pretended they had contracted COVID-19 in order to get three of the coveted trash bags.

When asked how students would properly move, if necessary, and survive in isolation if infected, BYU housing provided no comment.
