Midnight Madness Moved to 9pm Because “The Holy Ghost Goes to Bed at Midnight”

Instagram quote: “BYU……BYU…it’s for us…..for U. BYlovesU” – Cougarette slam poetry performance

Midnight Madness is a staple of BYU’s Homecoming Week. For years, this famous event has been held around midnight, hence the name. However, after a petition from students that refused to attend the event because “it’s held past the Holy Ghost’s bedtime”, it was decided Midnight Madness would be held at 9pm this year instead.

Tanner Smith, the author of the petition, told us his thoughts.

“Thankfully BYU decided to not follow the worldly temptation to keep us students up after midnight. I’m so excited that I can support the basketball team, listen to the Holy Ghost, and be well rested for my American Heritage test all in the same night. Thank you BYU!”

Other surprise changes happened this year as well. Inspired by one of the performances during BYU’s Homecoming Opening Ceremonies, the Cougarettes decided to replace their famous dancing act with a slam poetry performance instead.

“We wanted to show everyone the sensitive, introspective side of the Cougarettes. We are not just great dancers with great hair! We have feelings too,” reported Mckinzlee, head Cougarette.

These changes will definitely lead to a memorable Midnight Madness, so don’t miss out tonight.
