Bring Back the Glory Days: BYU Announces Homecoming ‘Spirit Week’

In an effort to engage all students, Brigham Young University announced a change to its yearly Homecoming Week celebrations. 

“We were trying to figure out how we can get our students excited about Homecoming.” said a representative from BYUSA, “Then, someone suggested we make college more like high school. After all, who doesn’t love high school? Those were the glory days!”

Below is a summary of the events offered during BYU Spirit Week, sent to us by BYUSA:


Monday – Missionary Monday

  • Real non-members will be released around campus. The first student to set a baptismal date wins a prize!

Tuesday – In-Tune Tuesday

  • Spirit Week Assembly! Come feel the Spirit as President Worthen explains what school spirit is really about! Attendance required.
  • BYUSA Lunch Line! Wait in line and get a bite to eat.
  • Hike to the Y! Only thus quintessential BYU experience just got better: we will be hiking it three times instead of one.

Wednesday – Wedding Wednesday

  • One O’Clock Days start! Activities, service and a speed-dating booth will help you find your future spouse! Y-Serve volunteers will be available for dating advice!
  • Bring your date to enjoy a free premarital workshop in Brigham Square! Attendance required for single students.

Thursday – Thirsty Thursday

  • Sodalicious and Swig have agreed to put their differences aside to offer discounted sodas! Bring a wacky cup and you’ll save an additional 1%!
  • One O’Clock Days! Didn’t get engaged on Wedding Wednesday? That’s ok! Activities, service and a speed-dating booth will give you a second chance to find your future spouse! Y-Serve volunteers will be available for dating advice!
  • Alumni Activities with a lobster dinner provided! Graduated students only.
  • BYU Spectacular! Unfortunately, Ben Rector sprained his throat and will not attend, but the show must go on and it will be equally spectacular! Trust us, it’ll be great! David Archuleta is in town and has nothing else to do. Attendance required.

Friday – Tie Day Friday

  • All male students can wear their wackiest tie! Female students can also get in on the fun by wearing their wackiest dresses or headbands! Sunday dress required.
  • One O’Clock Days! Still not married? Activities, service and a speed-dating booth will help you find whoever is left! Y-Serve volunteers will be available for dating advice!
  • BYU Birthday Bash! Come dressed as Brigham Young! Just remember, no beards! Those students who memorize three or more pre-approved Brigham Young quotes will get a Cosmo bandana!
  • BYU Spectacular! Friday’s performance will be unforgettable, as the first 40 students will get a collectible pair of Cosmo socks! Attendance required.

Saturday – Special Day Saturday

  • Cougar Run + Blue Pancakes! This year, we are doing something special! In order to get free pancakes, you must dress up as your pioneer ancestor and participate in the Cougar Run, which was extended to 15 km! Three times as fun and you’ll feel the Spirit, too!
  • Tailgate at Cougar Canyon! Come for food and fun! We will be holding a prayer meeting to help our boys win against Boise State! Attendance required.
  • BYU vs. Boise State! Watch as the BYU Cougars take on our Idaho rivals! You don’t want to miss this in case we win and storm the field! It happened once!

Sunday – Sabbath Day

  • Sacrament Meeting! Attendance Required.
