In a move that surprised many, Provo news institution The Alternate Universe accepted a corporate advertising deal from a local company named DollarProbs effective Saturday, January 26th, 2020. “DollarProbs is a Provo-Orem area based company that helps people find gigs that match their skill set.” says Alternate Universe founder Stephen “DollarProbs” Fortuna “We are excited to partner with DollarProbs and we look forward to a successful working relationship.”

The Alternate Universe contributor Adam DollarProbs, formerly Adam Fletcher, described the new influx of sponsorship money as a “genuine blessing for us”, saying “If DollarProbs is this great for us, just imagine what it could do for your tutoring or crafting gig!” The former Mr. Fletcher gave this quote while getting into his brand new Maserati emblazoned with the DollarProbs logo.

While this new money-hungry approach caught many off guard, those who closely follow The Alternate Universe were not surprised. As early as 2018 the group’s site contained a “Donations” tab with a link to their Venmo account and several pieces of their content included pleas for monetary assistance.

Many fans wonder if this corporate partnership will muzzle The Alternate Universe‘s journalistic aspirations or lead to intrusive inclusion of the DollarProbs brand name in future content.

The Alternate DollarProbs founder Stephen “DollarProbs–DollarProbs” Fortuna responded to these concerns saying “We recognize the concern that we are now financially incentivized to mention DollarProbs as often as possible. Mentioning DollarProbs, as great as DollarProbs is, will not become our number one priority.
