BYU Sues Big 12 For Trademark Infringement Of The 12 Apostles

As all eyes turn to the Big 12 basketball tournament that began today, the real March madness is taking place in a lawsuit filed by BYU against the Big 12.

After 3 years of Big 12 membership, BYU officials have noted that the number used in the conference’s title is eerily similar to that of the quorum of the twelve apostles. Since the lawsuit was filed, reporters have taken to campus to get the inside scoop of students’ perspectives. When asked about the conference tournament, communication’s major Kelseigh Janks, responded with,

“Oh yeah, I love the big 12! You’ve got Bednar, Gong, my guy Gary. I didn’t even know they had a basketball tournament!

Clearly something is amiss.

Even University President C. Shane Reese appeared to be victim to the confusion when he told Alt U reporters, “Renlund is going all the way baby, wooooo!”

Despite the hounding of BYU’s finest lawyers and heaps of evidence of funny business, the Big 12’s statement has remained the same:

“While we do acknowledge that the 12 apostles have been around much longer than basketball, we affirm that ‘The Big 12’ is a totally justifiable and intuitive name for a 16 team athletic conference.”
