Family Reignites Argument Over Whether It’s Okay to Watch Football on Sunday

With the NFL resuming play this past week, the Jacobson family of Pleasant Grove rekindled their argument over whether or not it is okay to watch football on Sundays. This debate has ravaged the family for over a decade. Every year Steve tries to turn on the TV and each time Sandy has told him to turn it off. She has turned her head away on Super Bowl Sunday, but does not approve of it on any other day.

With the advent of smartphones and tablets, Steve has become much sneakier in how he watches over the years. He has said that he is reading the scriptures or a Church magazine while actually just watching a game. He has often revealed his secret when he fist pumps or cheers out of nowhere. Last year he woke up their sleeping baby after an interception was returned for a touchdown.

This year Steve has some new strategies. With more BYU players in the NFL, Steve has suggested that he needs to watch as many games as he can because it’s a missionary opportunity. That way, he can talk with his coworkers about those former BYU players. Sandy admitted that this was not a bad idea, but still said no.

Steve has also convinced the children to ask their mom if they can watch football. When they ask, he suggests that it would be a good family-bonding activity. According to Sandy this has been the most pathetic attempt so far.

It seems that the fight will rage on for years to come. Sandy confessed to us at the Alternate Universe that she does not hate watching football on the Sabbath; She just hates football in general.
