From new hymns to tank top permission, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is on a mission to make church less boring. This week, the Church announced that instead of having a regular second-hour block, members will watch a series of 30-second Reels that go over the weekly Come Follow Me.
President Dallin H. Oaks explained:
“With the increase of dumb commentary and decrease of attention span in church meetings, members may now enjoy short videos that feed the spirit and the algorithm.”
The Church Media Office has been hard at work creating short-form content that will hook even the most bored of attendees. Content creator Reagan S. Croll said:
“We’ve got some exciting ideas so far. Right now we’re planning a collab with Temple Run where you have to run away from Biblical disasters.”
While many are excited about this change, others are wondering what this means for their current callings. Jacob Lessin, a teacher in the Elder’s Quorum said:
“I guess the ward council is talking about doing an ice bucket challenge at the start of Elder’s Quorum as a ‘visual hook’. I don’t know if I have what it takes to be an influencer.”
