BYU Connections To Watch During This Year’s Grammy Awards

For the last 68 years, the Grammy Awards have served as the ultimate echelon of musical success with absolutely zero subjective favoritism. This year marks a particularly special occasion, as it will feature the most tracks and artists with BYU connections ever to be nominated for a Grammy within the same year. Here’s a list of all of the Grammy nominees with BYU ties:

  1. BYU Men’s Chorus – Best Latin Pop Album
  2. That one girl in your ward making unnecessary harmonies – Best New Artist
  3. 17th ward primary program – Album of The Year
  4. BYU Fight Song sung by Your Father – Dr. Dre Global Impact Award
  5. The 4 notes that play at the end of every church video – All of The Grammys
  6. Popcorn Popping by C. Shane Reese – Best R&B Performance
  7. There is peace in Christ (phonk remix) – Record of The Year

While this is indeed a historic year for BYU and the grammys, some BYU performing groups still feel unsatisfied after failing to receive a grammy nomination.

“We feel absolutely slighted,” says Acapella group BYU Vocal Point. “Nobody has revolutionised making acapella covers of Kpop and Benson Boone songs like we have. Needless to say our revenge track will be dropping shortly.”

In the midst of some disappointment, the majority of BYU campus is celebrating this unprecedented year. Sophomore and Men’s Chorus tenor Bear Lee Sings said the following in regards to the recent nomination:

“At first we thought that getting nominated for a latin Grammy would be impossible. But when the recording academy found out how many of us have Spanish Minors and drink mate daily, we were essentially shoo-ins. No way that girls will turn me down now!”

When asked to comment on BYU’s Grammy success this year, President Reese’s secretary informed the Alternate Universe that President Reese was too preoccupied, “jamming to the youth album,” to hold an interview at that time.

While the exact winners of the awards are not yet known, what is certain is that BYU has left its mark on the music industry this year. Current metrics even predict that all potential awards could amount to almost 1/52 of BYU’s NIL budget. Indeed, the time for dreaming is not over, but is just getting started.
